UFF Converter Pro FAQ
Frequently asked questions about converting UFF files to Excel and CSV
Back to ProductGeneral Questions
What is a UFF file?
UFF (Universal File Format) is a standardized data format used in the test and measurement industry for storing modal analysis, vibration, and acoustic data. It was developed to allow data exchange between different analysis software systems. UFF files typically contain frequency response functions (FRF), time histories, and geometry information from modal testing equipment.
What is UFF Converter Pro?
UFF Converter Pro is a professional tool that converts Universal File Format (UFF) files to Excel (.xlsx) and CSV formats. It's designed for engineers working with modal analysis, vibration testing, and acoustic measurement data. The tool supports both ASCII and binary UFF files and can generate Bode and Nyquist charts directly in Excel output.
Can I try UFF Converter Pro before buying?
Yes! We offer a 14-day free trial with full functionality. No credit card is required to download and try the software. This gives you time to test the converter with your own UFF files before making a purchase decision.
What operating systems are supported?
UFF Converter Pro currently supports Windows 10 version 1809 and later. A macOS version is coming soon. The application requires a 64-bit processor and approximately 50 MB of disk space.
File Format Support
What UFF dataset types are supported?
UFF Converter Pro supports a wide range of UFF dataset types including: Dataset 15 (Nodes/coordinate data), Dataset 55 (Data at Nodes/modal data), Dataset 58 (Function at Nodal DOF/frequency response), Dataset 58b (Binary frequency response), Dataset 82 (Trace Lines), Dataset 151 (Header), Dataset 164 (Units), and Datasets 2411-2467 (I-deas format nodes, elements, analysis data, coordinate systems, and groups).
Does it support binary UFF files (58b)?
Yes, UFF Converter Pro has native support for binary UFF files (Dataset 58b). Binary files are processed efficiently with the same output options as ASCII files. The streaming architecture handles large binary files without memory issues.
Can it convert UFF files from LMS or Simcenter?
Yes! UFF Converter Pro can read UFF files exported from LMS Test.Lab, Siemens Simcenter, and virtually any other modal analysis or vibration testing software that exports to the Universal File Format standard. If your software can export to UFF, our converter can process it.
What export formats are available?
UFF Converter Pro can export to three formats: Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) with optional embedded charts, standard CSV with configurable delimiters, and Raw CSV which exports data exactly as stored in the UFF file without any conversion. Excel exports can include multiple sheets for different datasets and preserve all metadata.
Features & Capabilities
Does it create charts from FRF data?
Yes! For Dataset 58 frequency response data, UFF Converter Pro can automatically generate Bode plots (Magnitude vs Frequency and Phase vs Frequency) and Nyquist plots (Real vs Imaginary) directly embedded in your Excel output. Charts are automatically scaled and formatted for professional presentation.
How does it handle complex numbers?
You can choose how complex numbers are represented in the output: Real/Imaginary format or Magnitude/Phase format. When using Magnitude/Phase, you can also select whether phase is output in degrees or radians. These options are configurable for each conversion.
Can it handle very large UFF files?
Yes! UFF Converter Pro uses a streaming architecture that writes directly to disk without loading entire files into memory. This means it can handle datasets with millions of rows without running out of memory. Memory usage stays constant regardless of file size, and you can monitor progress in real-time during conversion.
Does it support batch processing?
Yes, you can convert multiple UFF files at once. Simply drag and drop files or entire folders into the application. You can choose to create a single combined output file or separate output files for each input UFF file.
Is the original metadata preserved?
Yes, UFF Converter Pro preserves all header information and metadata from your UFF files. This includes measurement labels, units, dates, and other descriptive information stored in the file. You can optionally include or exclude metadata headers in your output.
Privacy & Security
Is my test data sent to the cloud?
No. UFF Converter Pro processes all files 100% locally on your computer. Your proprietary test data never leaves your machine - there are no cloud uploads, no external servers, and no data transmission. This is critical for engineers working with confidential or export-controlled data.
Does it work offline?
Yes, the application works completely offline after activation. No internet connection is required for day-to-day use. We also offer offline activation for environments that can't connect to the internet at all.
Does it collect usage data or telemetry?
No. UFF Converter Pro does not collect any telemetry, usage data, or analytics. The software operates entirely locally with no phone-home functionality. Your usage patterns and data remain completely private.
Licensing & Pricing
How much does UFF Converter Pro cost?
UFF Converter Pro is $199 per year for a single-user license. This includes all features, all supported dataset types, built-in charting, free updates while subscribed, and email support. Volume discounts are available for multiple licenses.
Is it a subscription or one-time purchase?
UFF Converter Pro uses an annual subscription model. Your subscription includes all updates and new features released during your subscription period. You can cancel anytime, and the software continues working until your subscription expires.
Can I use it on multiple computers?
Each license is hardware-locked to one computer for security. If you need to use the software on multiple machines, you'll need additional licenses. We offer volume discounts for teams - contact us for pricing on multi-seat deployments.
Troubleshooting
My UFF file won't open. What should I check?
First, verify that your file is a valid Universal File Format file (not a different format with the same extension). Check the message log in the application for specific error details. If the file contains unsupported dataset types, those will be skipped but other data will still be extracted. Contact support if you need help with a specific file.
The Excel file is too large to open. What can I do?
For very large datasets, try using CSV output instead of Excel, as CSV files can be opened with tools designed for big data. You can also disable chart generation for Dataset 58, which reduces processing time and file size. If you're hitting Excel's row limit (about 1 million rows), the data will automatically span multiple sheets.
How do I activate offline?
For offline activation, the application generates a unique machine ID. Email this ID to our support team, and we'll send back an activation code. Enter this code in the application to complete activation. This process allows full functionality in air-gapped environments.
